koi fishes :)

My original vision was simply just koi fishes swimming in a body of water. My project doesn’t differ from my original vision! It came out just how I wanted with minor flaws from not having the right techniques or skills to do watercolor. I think my piece did get a little weaker due to the compromises I had to make of not having the right materials to do watercolor. The paper I used was just medium weight and was old. I also didn’t have a proper set of watercolors. Due to those circumstances, The paint didn’t disperse the way I wanted it to, but it didn’t turn out horrible, so I am okay with it. I recently got an obsession with doodling and sketching koi fishes in my free time or when I was bored because they give me a sense of serenity when I see it on paper. I wanted to incorporate this sense of serenity to remember that I shouldn’t always stress about school all the time and stop and absorb my surroundings. I also wanted to incorporate the idea of direction and motion. The frame of how much of the body of water you can see doesn’t tell you where the fish are. It allows the audience to focus more on the direction the koi fishes are swimming and the motions of how they swim. The setting of the fish and its surroundings can be up for interpretation, as it isn’t the main focus of the painting. If I could do this project again, I would get the right materials, better watercolors, and use tape to make sure that the different colors don’t leak onto each other, as the fins didn’t come out how I would’ve liked them to.
